Players Championship Results

Yet another tournament with a packed Sunday leaderboard and several meltdowns.  Watney had another 'Watney-like' stretch of holes that hurt his chances.  All McDowell had to do was to shoot 2 under in his final round to take the win.  Instead, he shoots 79.  Who would have thought we would have seen David Toms and K.J. Choi in a playoff?  After a brilliantly played 18th by Toms to force a playoff, he chokes on a 3 footer to give K.J. the win.

Only two people in the field picked Toms.  Unfortunately, you won't be pocketing the winner's share of $1.7 million (Toms still earned $1 million so I don't feel too bad for you).  Instead, 12 players get to pocket the $1.7 million on top of what their other players made.

This week's winner is Paul Miller with total earnings of $2,567,850.  Paul had a huge week.  Not only did he pick Choi, he also had Watney, Donald, and Kuchar contributing to his arsenal.  Congrats Paul.  Please email me you payment info and I will get your entry fee back to you.

With a huge weekend, Paul comes from the 68th spot to take the lead.  As shown here, potential for big leaderboard movement is always prevelant so you're never out of it.

Earnings can be found here (please check and make sure your totals are accurate):

Players Championship Round 2

36 holes in the books for the 2011 Players Championship.  The leaderboard is pretty packed at the top with some big names which should provide some entertaining televison this weekend.

Refer to the 'Leaderboard' link under 2011 for round 2 standings.

The cut line ended up at even par which eliminated quite a few of our players (21).  The biggest bust of the week goes out to Adam Scott.  He was the second most popular pick (35 picks) this weekend behind Mr. Donald and he won't be teeing it up tomorrow.  Furyk and Bill Haas were two other popular picks that won't be earning you any money this weekend.  Also, we had three players withdraw after starting play; Tiger of course, Geoff Ogilvy, and defending champ Tim Clark.  As stated earlier about Tiger, alternates are only in play if your player withdraws PRIOR to the start of the tournament.  Since all 3 started, no alternates will be in play (same as in fantasy football when one of your players gets hurt during a game).  You may choose these players later in the season if you wish since they did not finish the event.  Please contact me if you have any questions.

Yours truly has all 4 of his golfers in the top 15 with a cumulative score of -26, which leads the pack into the weekend.  Did I mention that  I am the defending champion of this event from 2010?

Scoring conditions should become more difficult this weekend as the course dries out and the greens firm up so I don't suspect the low scoring trend will continue to Sunday.   Nonetheless, it should be an exciting weekend.

I will update the leaderboard this weekend as frequently as time allows.  Just check the timestamp for the last update.

Good luck!

Players leaderboard update

There are some low scores out at the TPC this morning.  I will try to update our leaderboard during lunch today and at the end of round 2 (2011 link --> Leaderboard).

I should be able to update the leaderboard several times a day this weekend since it appears to be shaping up to be another exciting weekend.

Tiger withdraws from The Players

After an opening 42 on the front nine and Tiger decided to take his ball and go home.

To the 10 players that chose him this weekend, the rules clearly state that if your player starts the tournament, your alternate is ineligible.  The alternate is in place in case you golfer withdraws PRIOR to the start of the tournament.

As a concession, you may choose him again for future tournaments if you wish.

Good luck to the rest of your lineup.

Reminder to submit Players picks

With only two days left, we only have 8 people that have submitted their golfers for the Players.  Again, the deadline is Wednesday, May 11th at 9:00 PM CST.

Keep in mind that this tournament boasts the largest purse out of all 5 of our tournaments so doing well this weekend will help in the long-run.

You can confirm that your picks have been received by going to the '2011 Participants' link.  This page is not automatically refreshed when you submit so just check the time stamp of the last update compared to the time you submitted.

Players Message

Our Majors Pool continues with the Players Championship at the TPC Sawgrass one week from today.

The complete field will be finalized this weekend so please begin submitting your golfers when the final field is updated.

To reiterate, you are only allowed to use a golfer once per season.  Alternates can always be selected if they were not used.  No alternates were used for the Masters so they’re all fair game for you to use for future tournaments.  Refer to the ‘Player Selections’ link to see your Masters picks.

There were some questions last time about changing your picks after you’ve submitted.  Please try to submit only once so make sure you’re confident in your selections before submitting.  If for some reason you have to make a change, just submit again and I will use the most recent submission.  Again, please try to limit your submissions to one per tournament.

Picks are due by Wednesday, May 11th at 9:00 PM CST.  Please do not wait until the last minute to submit.

Also, feel free to use the links provided to research stats, rankings, etc.

Lastly, there are still 5 of you that have not paid your entry fee.  Please submit your payment ASAP so I can finalize and announce the final payouts.  http://cungsmajorspool.com/2011participants.html

Thanks and good luck.
