PGA Results - 2011 Results

With a star-studded field heading into this week, no one would have predicted the top of the final leaderboard.  I'm sure that wasn't the ideal scenario the suits at CBS hoped for but it turned out to be pretty compelling in the end.  It looked like mini Ray Floyd was going to have a walk in the park after Bradley tripled 16 but when Dufner's tee shot on 15 found the water, the unravelling began.  For the second straight year, the PGA Championship was decided in a playoff and Keegan Bradley prevailed to become the 2011 PGA champion.  You think Dufner is going to have trouble sleeping tonight?  It just goes to show that there will always be those "no-names" sprinkled in the top 10 of any major (take note for next year).

Duke Le was the only player that had Bradley.  This was the only player of his that made the cut but it was enough to give him the win for the weekend by pocketing $1,445,000.  Congrats Duke!

And now the moment we've all been waiting for.  Surpisingly, no one made a charge at the top 7 so everyone heading into this event in the money, stayed in the money.
Final Rankings:
1st place: Hill Shands - $1,217
2nd place: Christina Cung - $845
3rd place: Randal Oudt - $507
4th place: Marshall Cowden - $304
5th place: Gavin Wallace - $237
6th place: Bradley McBride - $169
7th place: Blake Bergstrom - $101

Congrats to the winners.  Please send me your PayPal or mailing address so I can get you your money.
The award for dead last place in the pool goes to David Ahmad.  No need to worry about your entry fee into next year's pool as it is on the house for your achievement.

Please double-check your earnings to make sure they are accurate:

Again, thanks to everyone for playing this year.  I had a good time running it and I hope you had fun playing.  We'll do it again next year.

PGA Championship - Players Posted

It's do or die week for some participants trying to work their way into to the top 7 to cash.

This week's overwhelming favorite is Rickie Fowler, who almost had twice as many picks (42) as the second most popular player Jason Day (24).  Surprisingly, Tiger is the third most popular pick coming off of a dissappointing debut in more ways than one.  The graph of the player breakdown can be found at the bottom of the PGA Championship link.  As always, please check your players to ensure they are accurate.

Once again, the top 7 will pay out as follows:
1st Place - $1,217
2nd Place - $845
3rd Place - $507
4th Place - $304
5th Place - $237
6th Place - $169
7th Place - $101

Also remember that the person that finishes dead last place that submitted for all 5 events will be exempt from next year's contest.  Since Matt Johnson did not submit for this tournament, David Ahmad has a stronghold on this dubious honor.  Good luck Dave.

As always, the scoring leaderboard will updated throughout the tournament so check the back to see where you stand.

Good luck.

Tiger at the PGA

My most recent email regardning the PGA Championship stated that Tiger would still be eligible for those that chose him for the Players.  That was a typo.  The rules clearly state that if a golfer begins his round, they are automatically ineligible.  The 9 players that had him for the Players have been notified that he will not be eligible for use for the last major.  Apologies for the confusion.

British Open Results

The first 9 of the Open's final round was setting up for a dramatic finish with Mickelson sharing the lead at one point shooting a 5 under 30.  But with 4 bogeys on the back side, he was quickly out of contention.  Dustin Johnson also made a charge but an inexcusable double on 14 kept his Sunday jinx at the majors alive.  He just needs to falter on a Sunday at Augusta for the Grand Slump.  Costly for Quan Vuong, Mark Williams and Patrick Woods, the only three that had Johnson but they will still pocket $689,617 each for Johnson.

In back-to-back Opens, a dark horse emerges as the Champion becoming the third player from Northern Ireland to win a major in the last 4.  Darren Clarke looked like he was going to have to stave off competition early in the round but he ends up cruising to victory.  What a brilliant outing as he is the only player without a round over par this week.  I guarantee he'll be drinking Guiness out of the Claret jug tonight.  Congrats to Darren.

Luckily for those trying to catch up, no one in the pool had Clarke.  Results have been posted and rankings have been updated.  There was very little shake-up in the rankings since most of everyone's golfers hacked it up this week.  Patrick Woods is this week's winner with total earnings of $967,960 (Johnson, Garcia, McIlroy,Day) which bumps him up from 46 position to 28th overall.  Congrats Patrick.  Please send me your payment info so I can get your entry fee back to you.

The new overall leader is Christina Cung who moved up one spot to take a slim lead over the former #1 Hill Shands by a only $75k.  As always, double-check your totals.  Final earnings can be found here Contact me if there are any discrepancies.

Our last major is 4 weeks from now at the Atlanta Athletic CC beginning on August 11th.  Some of us will be trying to hold the lead while others are trying to catch up.  The dark horse strategy could be in play for many of us trying to make a last ditch effort to place.  Again, the top 7 finishers at the end of the season will be in the money:

1st Place - $1,217
2nd Place - $845
3rd Place - $507
4th Place - $304
5th Place - $237
6th Place - $169
7th Place - $101

Remember that the player in dead last place at the end of the season will be exempt form next year's pool (you must submit for each 5 tournaments to qualify).  Matt Johnson has commanding control of this dubious honor at the moment.

Look for a message the week prior to the PGA Championship.

Round 3 Results Posted

The weather was dreadful for the early groups and the scores definitely reflect the brutal conditions.

The scoring leaderboard and the British Open links have been updated with round 3 scores.  You won't find too many red numbers on the British Open link.  I don't expect this week to be a huge earnings week compared to the last two tournament.  Watch out for Dustin Johnson tomorrow.  3 players in our pool have Mr. Johnson and will be hoping he shakes off his Sunday jinx.

British Open through Round 2

We're through 36 holes and it's shaping up to be an exciting weekend.  There are 70 players playing this weekend that are within 8 shots of the lead.  It is still anyone's tournament, especially if the winds kick up.  The conditions thus far have been somewhat benign compared to usual Open conditions, which is reflected in the scores.

No one in our pool chose leader Darren Clarke and only David May has Lucas Glover.  I will personally be rooting for the most interesting man in the golf world his weekend.

The top of the leaderboard as it relates to our pool are as follows:

Pos Player                Score     # of people that picked them
T1   Lucas Glover        -4         (David May)
T3   Miguel Jimenez    -3         (Steve Cung)
T3   Martin Kaymer     -3         (27)
T7   Davis Love III        -2         (Jacob Conklin, John Osborne)
T7   Charl Schwartzel  -2         (14)

If you don't have any of these players, I would suggest you root against Kaymer.  I'm tired of doling out $1.4 million to 20+ players.

There are also a few participants that are currently ranked in the top 10 that may have trouble cracking $250k this weekend.  My little sis is not one of these people.  Currently sitting at the 2 spot, she's looking to have a nice weekend as all four of her squad look to contend for the Claret jug (Kaymer, Schwartzel, Stricker and Garcia).  Good news for her, bad news for the rest of us.  Nice picks Tina!

There are some big names that will not be teeing it up tomorrow.  Lee Westwood and Graeme McDowell will watching on their tele along with the world's #1 Luke Donald.  Highly disappointing Open for those guys.

The leaderboard and British Open links have been updated with results through round 2.  To reiterate, scoring will not be indicative of how final tournament earnings will play out.  For instance, if you have a player win at -7 but your other players are +7 combined, the scoring leaderboard will show you at even par although you'll pocket $1.4 milllion in earnings.  The leaderboard is there just to get a feel on how your guys are stacking up against the field.

Check back tomorrow for leaderboard updates throughout round 3.

Good luck.

British Open Picks Posted

Picks for this week's Open Championship have been posted to both the 'Player Selections' link and the 'British Open' link.

The 2011 U.S. Open Champion Rory McIlroy is the favorite this week despite the fact that he hasn't played since Congressional and he has a high ball flight.  44 players chose Rory this week.  McDowell, Garcia, Westwood and Day round out the top 5 favorites for this week's event.  The graph showing player popularity is at the very bottom of the British Open link.

As always, please check your picks to make sure they are accurate.  Corrections need to be made tonight since the first group tees off in 3 hours.

I will update the scoring leaderboard at least once a day so check back to see where you stand during the tournament.

Good luck.

British Open

The British Open starts up EARLY Thursday morning so please begin submitting your picks for the Open Championship.  As always, refer to the 'Player Selections' link to see who you have already used.

We're down to our last two events and most of us have a lot of ground to make up.  Hill Shands, who was in 67th place after the Masters,  holds the lead going into this week with earnings totaling $4.36 million through 3 events.  As you've seen, a lot of movement can happen over the course of one tournament so you're never completely out of it.  For those that think they have no shot this season, the player that finishes in dead last will earn exemption into next year's pool (you must have submitted for each of the 5 events to qualify).

Of all the tournaments to have a no-name leaderboard, this is the one so choose your players wisely.

All picks are due Wednesday by 9:00 PM CST.  As always, please submit prior to the deadline.  Picks will be posted at 9:00 so if you're late, you're SOL.

Good luck.

U.S. Open Results

After a dominating performance through all four rounds, young Rory McIlroy is the 2011 U.S. Open Champion making Northen Ireland the home of back-to-back U.S. Open Champions.

25 of our pool participants had Rory as one of their squad for this week and that will net them each $1.44 million in earnings for this win.

This week's winner is Loyd Davis with total earnings of $2,609,871.  Mr. Davis put together a solid crew this week with McIlroy, Day, Garcia and Johnson.  That vaults him from the 77th spot all the way to the number 8 spot.  Your entry fee is on the way via PayPal Mr. Davis.  Congrats on a great week.

Our overall leader is Hill Shands who also had a solid Open.  Hill picked back-to-back tournament winners the for the past two events (very rare feat).  Remember that the top 7 spots will pay out as follows.  There's still two events to make up some ground.

1st Place ---------------------------$1,217
2nd Place -------------------------$845
3rd Place --------------------------$507
4th Place --------------------------$304
5th Place --------------------------$237
6th Place --------------------------$169
7th Place --------------------------$101

As always, please double-check your totals to ensure they are accurate.  Final results and earnings can be found here: http://scores.espn.go.com/golf/leaderboard

The British Open is only 4 weeks away and we only have two tournaments left.  Start thinking about how you want to play these last two events.  Some of us have some major catching up to do.  Like last year, I will award the person in dead last at the end of the season exemption into the 2012 Majors Pool.  To qualify, you must have submitted golfers for each of the 5 events.

I will send out an email a week prior to the British.

U.S. Open Leaderboard update thru 54

It appears that Rory has it on cruise control right now sitting on a 8 shot lead heading into the final round.  He's playing lights out right now.  If you're like me and did not choose Rory this week, you're rooting for him to repeat his previous majors meltdowns.  If he does hold out, 25 participants stand to pocket at least $1.35 million this weekend.  Come on Yang!

The leaderboard has been updated through 54 holes.  Once again, this is a cumulative score total for your players that make the cut.  This leaderboard can be deceiving since our pool is measured on earnings and not scoring, which can be quite different.  Check the US Open link to see individual player results

I've also added the overall majors pool rank so you can get an idea who has the potential to move up or down the rankings.

Good luck tomorrow.

US Open Picks Posted

My apologies to everyone for shortening up your time to get your picks in.  I also apologize for posting picks an hour after I originally stated but there are always procrastinators that wait until the last minute.

This week's overwhelming favorite is Steve Stricker (48 players) followed by Lee Westwood (33), Dustin Johnson (31) and K.J. Choi (29).  To see the rest of the breakdown, scroll to the bottom of the U.S. Open link to see the graph.

As always, please double-check your picks to make sure they are correct.

I will not be able to update the leaderboard Thursday or Friday but will do so Saturday and Sunday so check back for updates.

Good luck everyone.

Submitting players for the U.S. Open

Picks will be due on Tuesday, June 14th at 9:00 PM CST instead of Wednesday.  The 'Submit Golfers'  function will not be enabled until Sunday night (June 12th) when the final U.S. Open field is finalized at the conclusion of the St. Jude Classic.

Please start thinking about your picks becuase your window to submit golfers for the U.S. Open will only be a 48 hour period.

Players Championship Results

Yet another tournament with a packed Sunday leaderboard and several meltdowns.  Watney had another 'Watney-like' stretch of holes that hurt his chances.  All McDowell had to do was to shoot 2 under in his final round to take the win.  Instead, he shoots 79.  Who would have thought we would have seen David Toms and K.J. Choi in a playoff?  After a brilliantly played 18th by Toms to force a playoff, he chokes on a 3 footer to give K.J. the win.

Only two people in the field picked Toms.  Unfortunately, you won't be pocketing the winner's share of $1.7 million (Toms still earned $1 million so I don't feel too bad for you).  Instead, 12 players get to pocket the $1.7 million on top of what their other players made.

This week's winner is Paul Miller with total earnings of $2,567,850.  Paul had a huge week.  Not only did he pick Choi, he also had Watney, Donald, and Kuchar contributing to his arsenal.  Congrats Paul.  Please email me you payment info and I will get your entry fee back to you.

With a huge weekend, Paul comes from the 68th spot to take the lead.  As shown here, potential for big leaderboard movement is always prevelant so you're never out of it.

Earnings can be found here (please check and make sure your totals are accurate):
Players Earnings

Refer to the 'Overall Standings' link for current rankings.  The 'Player Championship' link has individual results.

The US Open is only 4 weeks away so start strategizing how you want to play the final 3 tournaments.

Players Championship Round 2

36 holes in the books for the 2011 Players Championship.  The leaderboard is pretty packed at the top with some big names which should provide some entertaining televison this weekend.

Refer to the 'Leaderboard' link under 2011 for round 2 standings.

The cut line ended up at even par which eliminated quite a few of our players (21).  The biggest bust of the week goes out to Adam Scott.  He was the second most popular pick (35 picks) this weekend behind Mr. Donald and he won't be teeing it up tomorrow.  Furyk and Bill Haas were two other popular picks that won't be earning you any money this weekend.  Also, we had three players withdraw after starting play; Tiger of course, Geoff Ogilvy, and defending champ Tim Clark.  As stated earlier about Tiger, alternates are only in play if your player withdraws PRIOR to the start of the tournament.  Since all 3 started, no alternates will be in play (same as in fantasy football when one of your players gets hurt during a game).  You may choose these players later in the season if you wish since they did not finish the event.  Please contact me if you have any questions.

Yours truly has all 4 of his golfers in the top 15 with a cumulative score of -26, which leads the pack into the weekend.  Did I mention that  I am the defending champion of this event from 2010?

Scoring conditions should become more difficult this weekend as the course dries out and the greens firm up so I don't suspect the low scoring trend will continue to Sunday.   Nonetheless, it should be an exciting weekend.

I will update the leaderboard this weekend as frequently as time allows.  Just check the timestamp for the last update.

Good luck!

Players leaderboard update

There are some low scores out at the TPC this morning.  I will try to update our leaderboard during lunch today and at the end of round 2 (2011 link --> Leaderboard).

I should be able to update the leaderboard several times a day this weekend since it appears to be shaping up to be another exciting weekend.

Tiger withdraws from The Players

After an opening 42 on the front nine and Tiger decided to take his ball and go home.

To the 10 players that chose him this weekend, the rules clearly state that if your player starts the tournament, your alternate is ineligible.  The alternate is in place in case you golfer withdraws PRIOR to the start of the tournament.

As a concession, you may choose him again for future tournaments if you wish.

Good luck to the rest of your lineup.

Reminder to submit Players picks

With only two days left, we only have 8 people that have submitted their golfers for the Players.  Again, the deadline is Wednesday, May 11th at 9:00 PM CST.

Keep in mind that this tournament boasts the largest purse out of all 5 of our tournaments so doing well this weekend will help in the long-run.

You can confirm that your picks have been received by going to the '2011 Participants' link.  This page is not automatically refreshed when you submit so just check the time stamp of the last update compared to the time you submitted.

Players Message

Our Majors Pool continues with the Players Championship at the TPC Sawgrass one week from today.

The complete field will be finalized this weekend so please begin submitting your golfers when the final field is updated.

To reiterate, you are only allowed to use a golfer once per season.  Alternates can always be selected if they were not used.  No alternates were used for the Masters so they’re all fair game for you to use for future tournaments.  Refer to the ‘Player Selections’ link to see your Masters picks.
http://cungsmajorspool.com/2011allplayers.html

There were some questions last time about changing your picks after you’ve submitted.  Please try to submit only once so make sure you’re confident in your selections before submitting.  If for some reason you have to make a change, just submit again and I will use the most recent submission.  Again, please try to limit your submissions to one per tournament.

Picks are due by Wednesday, May 11th at 9:00 PM CST.  Please do not wait until the last minute to submit.

Also, feel free to use the links provided to research stats, rankings, etc.
http://cungsmajorspool.com/links.htm

Lastly, there are still 5 of you that have not paid your entry fee.  Please submit your payment ASAP so I can finalize and announce the final payouts.  http://cungsmajorspool.com/2011participants.html

Thanks and good luck.

Masters Results

Sunday at Augusta never fails to please.  I didn't expect such a surge of contenders coming down the stretch but it sure was exciting. I thought the Dustin Johnson collapse in last year's US Open was bad but what McIlroy went through on the back 9 has to be up there as one of the worst choke jobs I've ever seen.  To have a 4 shot lead at Augusta heading into Sunday and shoot 80 the final day is a tough one to swallow.  Sorry to the 4 players that chose him.

Mitch Morales and Chris Sholer were the only players to choose Charl Schwartzel.  Unfortunately, BOTH had him as their alternate.  That only cost each of you $1.35 million.  Alternates are rarely used.  They are more for the "kick yourself in the ass" factor if they happen to go low or in this case, win the damn thing.  Better luck next time boys.

For those that didn't have any dogs in the hunt down the stretch, the top of the leaderboard was the best case scenario because no one chose any of the top 3 finishers so that will lessen the blow earnings wise.

With that being said, our winner for the week is Keller Crowley with Masters earnings totaling $758,934.  The winner last year pocketed a little more than $2 million so the lead is slim compared to last year. Keller, please send me your address or PayPal info and I will get your entry fee back to you.

See the 2011 Ranking Summary to see where you stand after our first major.  The Masters page will have each players' earnings.  Double-check to make sure your totals are correct:
Official Earnings

This is a long season so even if you're towards the bottom, there's plenty of golf left and anything can happen.  We only have 4 weeks until our next tournament so start thinking about your strategy for the Players Championship.  I will send out a reminder email a week prior.

Masters update through 54

Standings have been posted through round 3.  Duke Le holds the first place spot heading into Sunday.

Rory looks solid.  I'm not sure any one can catch him if he keeps playing this well.

Only 4 players chose McIlroy: Duke Le, Matt McGee, Paul Miller and Dale Smith.  If Rory holds on, each player will pocket a cool $1.35 million on top of what their other players pull down.  Not a bad way to start the season.

Look forward to tomorrow.

Cheers!

Augusta National In Person - Recap by Tommy Sommerville

This is courtesy of one of our players who just got back from Augusta.  Makes me want to start planning my 2012 trip.  Thanks Tommy for the writeup!

Wednesday

Got there about 10 when things were warming up.  The town is pretty ghetto surrounding a really nice whites only country club.  If you want more of an explanation about that kind of thing, ask Sanders.  We park our car and we're already in a good place bc its only 10 dollars. Its this low cost stuff that makes you really really hate Jerry Jones.  We walk about two blocks and we look over and theres this big bus with tables out in front of it with all this gear and it is 2 time major winning and 2004 comeback player of the year John Daly selling John Daly merch out the back of a truck.

The police were in the process of shutting him down because he didnt have a permit.  I love John Daly.

We get in and security is like the President is inside.  On the practice round Wednesday you can have cameras but not for the rest of it.  And you can never have a phone on site. If you get caught with one they take your pass and youre banned for the week.  Shits infuriating or you would have had 900 L7 emails on Wed.  First thing you walk up to when you get in is the driving range which is nicer than any golf course I have ever seen.  Lot of younger guys were still at the range which is where I got that pic of Rory McIlroy.

The kid is unreal, 21 years old.  All of these guys are just smoking it down the driving range, bullshitting with each other at the same time.  The Asian players kinda keep to themselves.  But every single one of them is just textbook. It was really quite depressing.

We walk in to the main area and it kinda looks like Six Flags.  We decide we gotta try out the food. And as I told you earlier its dirt cheap. Sandwiches are all a dollar (egg salad, pimiento cheese, bbq, club, etc) Beers are 3 dollars.  (Stella or Budweiser, thats it. So awesome)  You get through that and then you walk up on the Big Board which is the entrance to the course.

This is the first thing you see which is looking over the 1 and 18 fairways down into a few other holes. 1 green is to your right, 18 to your left.
We kinda roam for a little bit and notice the crowd over on 10.  It turns out to be Phil, Freddie Couples, Rickie Fowler, and the US amateur champ Uehlein from OK State.  Everyones watchin Phil, but Freddie is the shit.  During the practice round all the players interact with the crowd and talk to em. Its really cool.  You could tell this group had some action goin on and the amateur was losin his ass.   The kid is tiny but pretty cool.  My dad and our other guy didnt care for him. I dont know if yall saw him yesterday but he literally wore all green Puma gear.  Shirt, hat, pants, shoes, belt everything. We followed those guys for another couple holes and then we broke off to go watch Tiger.  He was playin with his boy OMeara and Arjun Atwal this new guy from India who was supposed to be a stud but didnt play well yesterday.

Amen Corner

Intermittently throughout we would break off to go eat more sandwiches. Went on to the Par 3 tourney which is a separate 9 hole course on the grounds which is unreal sick.  It would be the most fun thing ever to play this with friends and gamble.  It would be the nicest course that we would ever play and its only nine holes.

We watched a bunch of pairings and everyone interacts with everyone once again.  Signing autographs and crackin jokes at each hole.  Really cool.  Then we watched the full 9 holes of Palmer, Nicklaus and Player.

I kinda just left my dad alone on that bc he was in his own little world. We watched that and drank some more by that time it was about 5 so we went back to the hotel.  Pretty awesome day.

Thursday

(The dogwoods and azaleas are in full bloom,  the crowds are filing in here at Augusta National Golf Course.  Hi everyone I'm Jim Nance, and this is the Masters...)
I dont have any pics so this will be a quicker summary.  Got there at 6:30 bc the gates opened at 7.  Daly had not woken up yet.  You get in just as the sun is coming up and theres still a fog over the course and its like 45 degrees.  Its pretty surreal.  We walked the course first before any of the players teed off.  Its just the most amazing thing you've ever seen.  I know we say this but we really need to go.  It would be a shit ton of fun with friends.  Followed Dustin Johnson, Nick Watney and Adam Scott early on.  Dudes just kill it.  I think Johnson must drive the ball 360 yards.  Its pretty empty in the mornings.  What you wanna do is buy chairs and you run to a hole that you want to be at later in the day somewhere between holes 11-16 and put your chairs down.  Nowbody moves em or steels em so you dont have to stay there to save em.  It gets real hot by about noon.  Television gives you a fairly good view of how pretty it is, but it has no way of showing how impossibly hard it is.  The fairways are wide open and there is absolutely no rough.  It really is all just like youre walking on carpet.  But the impossible part are the greens.  TV has no way to show all the insane slopes and bumps in the green.  False fronts, big ol knobs right in the middle and the hole placement is just insane.  One hole they put on a little flat area about the size of a dining room table and the rest of the green is just an absolute nightmare.  One putt we watched broke 4 different times.  And theyre fast as shit so you barely tap it and it goes 40 feet and sometimes off the green entirely.  We were set up at one par 3 tee box after the previous hole which had the hardest green on the course.  And this young player DA Points who is a really cool dude from U of Illinois had all his boys there to see him.  And we are standing next to his friends and after the impossible green he comes to the tee box and see his friends and he just looks at em and shakes his head.  This was their exchange:

Points:  That was the hardest green I have ever played.
Friend:  Wow you really sucked back there
Points:  Shut the hell up, I could have you kicked out so fast
Friend:  Then you'd have nobody here to cheer for you
Points:  Security! This guy has a cell phone! I think he's tweeting!

We followed a few different pairings

Els, Mahan and somebody else (Els is so smooth, Mahan has an ex cowboys cheerleader wife named Kandi with a K and I)
McIlroy, Fowler and Day (McIlroy is incredible, Fowler dresses funny)
Tiger and whoever he was with (He as weirdly small feet, and he just doesnt seem the same anymore)
Westwood, Kaymer and Kuchar (Coolest group, Kaymer World number 1 had an awful day, but Westwood is sick and Kuchar is really cool)
Phil and whoever he was with (Phil has bitchtits.  But he's just happy to be here.)

The crowds all move with Phil and Tiger.  You could be waiting for them two holes ahead and have nobody around you and then all of a sudden you just see waves of people heading towards you and you know its only 1 of 2 people. Like I said the trim was a little disappointing.  I guess we are just spoiled from the Colonial and Byron.   Amen Corner is unreal.  Greens are unreal.  Food prices unreal.  Whole place is unreal.  And John Daly sells tshirts out of a truck.  We all really really really need to go.

Masters Round 1 - Pool Leaderboard

To reiterate, this pool is determined by overall earnings and not cumulative score but I like to post our leaderboard just so you can see where you rank amongst the field after day 1.  I'll do this for each round if time permits.

Don't be discouraged if you're towards the bottom.  There's still a lot of golf left in this tournament and in the season.

Standings can be found under the '2011' link on the 'Leaderboard' tab.  For individual scores, refer to the 'Masters' tab.

Good luck tomorrow.

We ended up with 93 players this year.  Surprisingly, we had more new entrants than returning, 40 returning players and 53 new players, so welcome to the newcomers.  There are still 13 of you that owe payment so please take care of that.  Final payouts cannot be posted until all entries have been accounted for.

All entrants' Masters picks have been posted under the '2011' link.  You can navigate different tabs of the spreadsheet at the bottom of the page.  Please double check your selections to make sure they are correct.  No changes will be made after the first group has teed off so please contact me if there is a discrepancy.

The 'Player Selections' tab will contain all of your picks throughout the season so you can see which golfers you've used.

The 'Masters' tab has everyone's Masters picks and will also be updated with each player's earnings at the conclusion of the tournament.  Each tournament will have a separate tab.

The 'Standings' tab will have cumulative season earnings and your overall rank.

As for this week, there's no surprise that Phil is the field favorite.  Out of the 93 players, 70 of you selected him as one of your golfers or roughly 75% of the field.

Other favorites are as follows:
Nick Watney - 46 players out of 93 (49%)
Matt Kuchar - 23 out of 93 (25%)
Hunter Mahan and Lee Westwood - 20 out of 93 (22%)

Results will be posted Sunday evening when final earnings have been posted so please check back then.

Good luck to everyone!

Time is Running Out

There are still a number of participants who either have not made payment, submitted their picks for the Masters or both.

If you are on the registration list and do not intend on playing, please notify me so I can remove you from the list.

Otherwise, please submit payment and golfers ASAP.

About submitting golfers:
Yes you can change your picks by resubmitting the form again but please try to submit only once per tournament.  Picks are manually input for all 80 players so multiple submissions could cause confusion.

It's time

The Masters is finally upon us which kicks off our majors pool for 2011.  Please begin submitting your golfers for this week.  Remember that you select 4 golfers per tournament and can only use one throughout the year.

You can change your picks by submitting again and I will try my best to select the most recent submission but please try to submit only once per tournament.

I need all picks in by Wenesday night so I can post everyone's player selections prior to Thursday's round.

All picks are due no later than 9:00 PM CST on Wednesday, April 6th.

Beard Invitational - Barton Creek Austin, TX

A dozen of us headed down to Austin this weekend for my brother-in-law's bachelor party. Despite lots of lost Pro V1's and cosuming enough booze to kill a small horse, it was a pretty kick-ass time.

(For those that have never met me, I'm the non-white guy.)

Quite the motley crew

This drive only went 330 (apologies again to the group ahead of us for hitting into you)

Loyd Davis with the shot of the day.  Knocking a 4 iron stiff on a par 5.  Not sure why he's reppin' westside.

After 36 holes of boozing....

Final Week before Augusta

Just one more week before the start of the Masters. For those that have registered but have not paid, please do so ASAP.

We still need a few more players so there's still time to enlist new players.

We currently have 51 players confirmed but only 10 are new participants so pass this on to fellow golfers, friends and family.

Stay tuned for more info later in the week.

Message about Masters picks

Just a quick note about submitting picks for the Masters right now. The final field is still not set and won't be confirmed until April 3rd. Although the 'Submit Golfers' functionality is available right now, I would refrain from submitting picks until the week of the tournament. I will update the final field list that Sunday.

Tiger's new practice facility

Must be nice to have this in your backyard and to be able to hit shots out of your studio....

Tiger Woods doesn't have to go far to work on his game.
In fact, he doesn't even need to leave his Florida mansion. Woods recently unveiled his backdoor practice facility outside his Jupiter home after five months of construction last summer.
The 3.5-acre site has four USGA constructed putting greens and seven bunkers with four different types of sand. He wanted the course "to replicate tournament-level playing scenarios, similar to those he has faced on courses all over the world," according to TigerWoods.com.
"Pretty soon, I'll be moving into my new home in Jupiter, Fla. I'm excited about that and even more excited about my new practice facility. It's phenomenal," he explained in a blog post on TigerWoods.com on Monday.

"Working with my team, I designed the short-game facility and oversaw its construction," he added. "It features four greens, six bunkers with different depths and kinds of sand, a video center and a putting studio. If no wind is blowing, the longest club I can hit is a 7-iron. It's also set up so I can hit shots out of my second-story studio."

Welcome to the 2011 season

Another PGA season has commenced and we are just 4 weeks away from our first major of the year.  It's time to start registering for our 2011 Majors Pool.  For returning players, the rules are the same as last year.  For new players, please refer to the 'Rules' link for an overview.

The entry fee for this year is $40 for the entire season.  Please submit your payment prior to the Masters.  April 6th will be the deadline for payment.  You will not be registered until your payment has been received.

I look forward to the season and hope everyone enjoys playing.
